Exploring the Legacy of Tabaco National High School in Tabaco City, Albay

Nestled in the heart of Tabaco City, Albay, Tabaco National High School (TNHS) stands as a beacon of education and community spirit. Founded with a mission to provide quality education to the youth of Tabaco, TNHS has grown over the years into a respected institution, deeply woven into the fabric of the local community.

A Rich History

Established in 1945, right after the liberation period, TNHS began as Tabaco High School amid the post-war recovery. Initially, the Albay High School was temporarily transferred to Tabaco, holding classes at the Qua Chee Gan Building under Principal Benigno Reyes. Despite plans to return the school to Legazpi, prominent local leaders, including Congressman Casimiro Binamira and former Governor Saturnino Benito, successfully advocated for its permanence in Tabaco.

Mr. Pastor Escalante was appointed as the principal, and due to space constraints, classes were held in various buildings with students contributing essentials like chairs and tables. The school's first High School Day was celebrated with Marichu Crisol crowned as Miss Tabaco High School. Efforts by the Parent-Teacher Association eventually secured funds for a permanent school site, cementing the school's place in the community.

Extracurricular Activities

At TNHS, education extends beyond the classroom. The school offers a variety of extracurricular activities designed to develop students' talents and interests. From sports teams to cultural clubs, and from science fairs to debate competitions, TNHS provides ample opportunities for students to explore their passions and hone their skills.

I remember back in the days when I actively joined painting and slogan competitions, often keeping it a secret from my family. It was a thrilling experience when teachers began to notice my talent, offering support and urging me to participate in these competitions. Winning these contests was a gratifying experience. A special shoutout to Ms. Luningning Imperial, my Drafting teacher, who taught me the basics and laid the foundation for my love of the arts. I also joined writing competitions discreetly, fearing embarrassment if I lost. The Tinigsik poem competition, often hosted by the esteemed Mr. Marcial Bellen, one of the remarkable teachers and still actively teaching in TNHS. It was a particularly memorable event.
