KAZAKHSTAN Odyssey: A 6-Day Adventure in the Land of Surprises

Updated: May 13

Kazakhstan, the world's largest landlocked country, beckoned with promises of vast landscapes and captivating experiences. My journey in Kazakhstan was a thrilling 6-day adventure filled with unexpected encounters, stunning scenery, and the warm hospitality of its people. From crossing the border from Kyrgyzstan to horseback riding in Kolsai Lake, here's a glimpse into my unforgettable trip.

Day 1: A Midnight Border Crossing

My journey began at the stroke of midnight when I crossed the Kyrgyzstan-Kazakhstan border. Carrying heavy luggage, a kind Korean-looking gentleman came to my rescue, helping me with my bags. At the border control, where the language barrier was a challenge, this good Samaritan stepped in as my translator for the second time that night. Grateful for his assistance, he treated me to a comforting cup of hot coffee as I waited for my guide to arrive.

Day 2: Black Canyon, Charyn Canyon, and Kandy Lake

The next morning, my guide arrived, and we embarked on a 4 to 5-hour drive to our accommodation for the night. On the following day, we hit the road again, this time heading to the extraordinary landscapes of Kazakhstan.

Black Canyon: Our first stop was the enigmatic Black Canyon, a place shrouded in mystery, with its dark, imposing rock formations that have witnessed centuries of changing landscapes.

Charyn Canyon: About an hour's drive from the Black Canyon, we arrived at Charyn Canyon, a natural wonder reminiscent of the Grand Canyon. The sheer vastness and the vibrant colors of the rock formations took my breath away.

Kandy Lake: We continued our journey to the picturesque Kandy Lake, where the crystal-clear waters mirrored the surrounding peaks. These breathtaking sceneries, though distant from one another, revealed the diversity of Kazakhstan's natural beauty.

Day 3: Horseback Riding to Kolsai Lake

The following day, we rose early and embarked on a unique adventure. We journeyed towards Kolsai Lake but opted for an unusual mode of transportation—horseback riding. The horseback journey allowed us to savor the sights and sounds of the landscape, immersing ourselves in the beauty of the surrounding area.

Kolsai Lake: Our destination was Kolsai Lake, a true jewel of Kazakhstan. Nestled within the majestic Tien Shan mountains, the serene, clear waters of the lake reflected the surrounding greenery. Surrounded by pristine forests, Kolsai Lake was a peaceful oasis that left a lasting impression.

Day 4: Arrival in the City of Kazakhstan

On the fourth day, we embarked on another extensive drive, finally reaching the city of Kazakhstan. I opted for a hotel closer to the city center to make exploring the urban landscape more convenient.

Day 5: Urban Exploration

With my guide's departure, I set out to explore the city on my own. Kazakhstan's urban landscape held its own unique charm, and I was drawn to its vibrant culture and bustling markets. The city's rich history and architectural beauty were a testament to its diverse heritage.

Day 6: Farewell to Kazakhstan

As my 6-day adventure came to an end, I looked back on the eventful journey with fond memories. My guide had already departed, and I had an early morning flight to catch. The hotel's reception kindly arranged for a car to take me to the airport, ending my Kazakh sojourn.

Kazakhstan exceeded my expectations, offering stunning natural beauty, the generosity of strangers, and an adventure that will be etched in my heart forever. As I left, I knew that I had only scratched the surface of what this incredible country had to offer. Kazakhstan's warm people, breathtaking landscapes, and rich culture left me yearning for a return visit. It was an unforgettable 6-day journey, filled with surprises and lasting memories that I will carry with me on all my future adventures.
